Love Is Stupid

STORY TIME, CHILDREN!

     Three Dog's voice blared through the Jukebox in her Vault-themed home in Megaton. He was saying something about feeding yao guai or something, Robbyn wasn't quite paying attention. She was too focused on Wadsworth's joke. Butch was listening to the floating tin can from his sitting position on the stairs, hoping that this one wouldn't go over his head like most of his others. Robbyn understood just about all of them. Her favorite was the one about the crematory that sold discounts to burn victims.
     "For you? No charge!" Robbyn burst into laughter as Butch shook his head. It wasn't that he didn't get the joke. That one was just terrible.
     "Now for some music. This is Billie Holiday with 'Crazy He Calls Me!'" As the violins began to sing, Robbyn jogged to his comfortable perch and tugged on his arm.
     "What do you want, Nosebleed?" She continued to pull on his right arm wordlessly. He sighed as he grudgingly rose and was pulled up the stairs. She stopped at the railing that prevented her from going downstairs the quick and painful way. "Rob, what's the deal?" She looked away nervously, having no experience with making the first move. She timidly slipped her small hands away from the other vault dweller's arm, grabbed his hand, and slowly placed it on her waist. After she did the same with his other hand, she rested her arms on his shoulder and placed her hands on the back of his neck. She began to sway them both from side to side and before they new it, they were dancing together.
     "You just wanted a dance with the Butch-man?" The romantic tomboy blushed as she awkwardly nodded. He chuckled as he pulled her closer to him. "Ya know, you could've just asked."
     "Shut up! I'm about as experienced at this 'love' thing as the brainy Cywren Caster, okay?"
     "So, not at all?"
     "Yep."
     "Love is stupid."
     "So let's be idiots together." Butch looked down at Robbyn in surprise and then broke into laughter.
     "That just might have been the smoothest thing that I've ever heard come out of your mouth!" It was now Robbyn's turn to giggle.
     "Beginner's luck?" she shrugged.
     Even after the song came to an end, they danced and laughed the night away, forgetting the hellish wastes they lived in.
